Feeding Your Puppy

Your new puppy has been fed a raw food diet and 'free choice' Royal Canine Puppy kibble.

We also keep PLENTY OF FRESH WATER ALWAYS. USE DISTILLED OR FRESH SPRING WATER FOR FIRST 4 OR 5 DAYS PLEASE…Do not give your pup city water ever. Use clean well water, purified or spring water all of her/his life. Do not offer Distilled water long term as it has no natural minerals in it.

There are other GREAT foods that dogs like a lot (and we also use), for example:

Timberwolf
Back to Basics
Innova-Evo
Canidae

The key to great foods is the pureness and high meat content. No preservatives or high levels of grain. Organic is the best. We also switch our dogs to different dog foods to give them a change and keep their systems clear.

We ARE advocates of feeding a raw diet. If you are interested in learning more you can go to:

www.barfworld.com
www.njboxers.com

We do not follow the information given on the above BARF web sites exactly but we do feed raw food to all of our dogs. We use a prepared raw food although you can make your own which is ideal and less expensive.

Here are some Great foods for your pup and are things we usually do:

We feed Natures Variety (Prairie) (http://naturesvariety.com/) Raw Food. This comes in a patty and contains the balance of protein and carbohydrates your pup needs. We still leave a Great kibble available for them all the time but they rarely eat it…having kibble available at all is by the way, against some raw feeders belief systems.

Hard boiled eggs…Peel the eggs for your pup until he/she is about four months old then cut them in half and feed shell and all but the shell is ideally crushed. (lots of calcium in the shell).

Fresh organic (when possible) chicken necks. We go to the health food store and buy 40# at a time, separate them into freezer zip lock bags in smaller quantities and freeze them. We feed about ½ to one a day…one constitutes a meal for an adult. The little puppies have a hard time getting into the bone so you may have to wait until they are a little older but they will love trying.

Chicken backs are good too. Do not feed weight-bearing bones to your dog. DO NOT COOK THEM AT- ALL EVER…The bone may shatter and cause big problems for the pup.

AKE SPECIAL NOTE

DO NOT FEED TYPICAL CANNED FOOD…USE ONLY HIGH QUALITY, SUCH AS RECOMMENDED ABOVE.
DO NOT FEED COOKED BONES.
DO NOT FEED TABLE SCRAPS...ESPECIALLY BEFORE MAIN MEAL.
DO NOT LET CHILDERN PLAY UNSUPERVISED WITH YOUNG PUPS.
DO NOT LET CHILDREN PLAY WITH YOUNG PUPPY FOR EXTENDED PERIODS.
